You cannot just drop the pan for transmission F4A42 it will require a complete removal and tear down of the tranny to get the filter out. Only thing taking the pan off does is drain the fluid. You cannot just drop the pan for transmission F4A42 it will require a complete removal and tear down of the tranny to get the filter out. Possible "oil filter" wrench, Or a mechanic's set of strong hands. It.s usually accessible from the bottom of the car. It looks like a large tin can with the bottom edge rounded.
look on front top right corner cylinder block. the 1.4 engine has the canister type oil filter.you need large socket and wrench to remove canister cap be sure replace the o ring in the oil filter cap housing.
The 3.2 engine the oil filter is located on the bottom of the engine to the left of the oil pan. It is not a screw on type filter it is a canister filter.
It's above a cover on the right side of the oil pan. Remove the cover for access. This filter is a canister type which will require a special wrench to remove. You should be able to find the wrench at your local parts store, just ask the guys at the counter. It looks like a massive socket with 20ish( or more, just throwing a number out there) flats.
The Location of the oil filter depends on which engine you have in your CTS. the 3.2 engine the oil filter is located on the bottom of the engine to the left of the oil pan. It is not a screw on type filter it is a canister filter. You will have to unscrew the lid to gain access to the oil filter. On the 3.6 Engine the oil filter is also a canister filter but it is located on the top side of the engine. On the drivers side around the center of the engine cover. It will take a 15/16 socket to remove the lid.

they do make a filter cup to help get if off. you plan on changing your own oil a lot then it is an wise investment. the auto part store should carry on
You probably could if the threads are the same. Aside from military vehicles I have worked on, the Saturn was the first car I worked on with a spin-on trans filter. Most auto parts stores carry the transmission filter for Saturns and they are not that much more than an oil filter.
If this is the V6 engine, your oil filter should be a canister type filter, it should be located on the passenger side, underneath at the front of the engine. You should see what looks like a black cap (about the size of an oil filter) your oil filter is located inside this canister. Hope this helps.
In 2002 they discontinued the external trans filter. So your vehicle could have the external filter. If you look next to the trans dipstick tube, on top of the trans case you will see the filter or you will see just a spot where the filter use to go before they eliminated it. Yes, the filter does llok like a regular engine oil filter. If the trans does not have the external filter ontop then there is no service to the filter to be done, the only recommendation is to bring vehicle into a shop to have the fluid flushed. By the way, make SURE you use the correct Hyundai SP-III trans fluid (not dexron/mercon). This fluid is specific to the Hyundai and can not be purchased from auto parts stores, only the dealership. Failure to use SP-III will cause premature wear to the internal bands and clutches.
