85 Yota pick-up; ( carberated ) , and by the way, no "real" computer **** on this truck. This truck has a schizophrenic ULTRA HIGH and ULTRA LOW idle. Now zero start, but sputters "trying" to start if you pump the pedal as you crank. Thinking perhaps the ( mechanical ) fuel pump randomly crapped out, or the accelerator pump, or the float is stuck. I'm Just trying to get my head wrapped around this weeks version of turning wrenches on my involuntary 1985 Yota hobby. ...
Mcdevito75 here, Could be a dirty fuel fliter, remove fuel inlet toarb, crank engine but don"t start, container of 1 pint of gas should pump out from detached carb. fuel inlet, if not replace fuel pump. Very high idle and very low idle could also be a major vacumn leak, check all vacumn hoses, also check intake manifold, spray soapy water around intake manifold try to start, if you see water sucked in or engine now starts, there"s your problem, a vacumn leak.

***SOLUTION***
Upon investigation this morning I discovered that a 7 or 8 mm hose had became disengaged with some sort of "do-hickey" inside of the air cleaner. This was probably my schizophrenic idle problem.
This doesn't explain the sudden not wanting to crank episode yesterday! I think perhaps since there was 6000% humidity yesterday it is was wreaking havoc with the spark ignition. I wiggled wires and pushed the boots on the plugs and distributor.
After all of this...the engine now cranks and idles show room new! I believe I still have a bit of a choke problem that will become more prevalent during the winter, but it goes down the road now!
