I'm not sure about the noise, but the jerking motion might be because your the center roller (located in the rear middle of the sliding door) has worn out and need to be replace. This is a will known problem.

I had a similar problem wit a 93 sl2. It turned out to be the driver's door lock. I avoided replacing the lock by simply always having the key in an absolute virtical position before removing it. It seems that after many cycles of lock/unlock the the mechanism loosens up to the point you can actually take the key out in a slightly off virtical position. This leaves the elctronics in a questionable state which a bump can easily jar into an incomplete lock sequence that never completes over and over again click click cli.... Try it may be your problem as well.
It sounds like your Power Door Lock Relay is working intermintently. Bypass the relay and test the Power Door Locks with a jumper wire direct from the battery, if they work with no hesitation then it is a bad relay.
Sometimes the wiring breaks where the door swings open and close. You can remove the the boot and check the wires you will probally find some broken. Check good and feel the wires.
One of your door lock inside switches are bad.Find the one that doesn't feel right when you push it in either lock or unlock. The internal spring is broke causing the lock relay to keep try to lock or unlock until it gets hot & protects.
First of all find out which door is making the noise second they arell connected together its like having an open circuit but the one or ones that are making the noise need to be changed/ Please rate my response thank you very much
