My Mercedes C - 220, 1994 has a problem of starting the engine, if stopped & attempt to restart within lessthan about 5 minutes time. Very often it can be started after keeping it locked for another 5~10 mts. & then open the doors & strat. At certain times this tactic won't work. Recently I had to keep it locked for nearly 5 hrs. & still it did not start, until the next day morning. Please let me know if this is something to do with a faulty anti-theft system installed originally or something else. Please help to diagnose the problem

I forgot to tell you that my car runs on diesel. So, it's a diesel

C-220. To answer you question, yes when attempting to start the noise of the starter motor & the engine turning noise is there.

I am not aware if a remote start / or alarm system has been installed, because I bout it second hand in 2004. Please note that I have had this problem for nearly 5 years now. I have no other engine problem & the car is running perfectly even though it had done over 150,000kms now.

Thank you for letting me know it is a diesel, they have a much higher compression ratio than non-diesels. Now does your "no-start" problem ever occur when you first start it in the morning after it has been sitting overnight?

Does the problem only occur after driving for a period of time?

And do you know if the starter has ever been replaced (to the best of your knowledge)?

Let me know and I'll tell you what to look for next!

When you try starting it does it make any noises? Is there remote start and/or alarm system?

SOURCE: 1993 Mercedes Benz 300E, right rear squeak

Common causes for High-pitched noise from rear wheels are:

The wheel bearing: this is not usually dangerous in the short term, but I recommend contacting a mechanic and having it fixed. To test the wheel bearing, you lock front wheels, and jack up the car rear and spin the wheel (handbrake unlocked). If bearing is worn you hear a drone. When is the bearing, often car starts vibration above 40 mph.
Noise from bearing can be continuous, intermittent, only when steering, only when hot.

The brake pads: when brake pads are worn out they start making a squealing noise, in this case the noise is only when you brake or continuous. When you jack up the car the wheel may be a little stiff, but not necessarily. When brake pads are completely gone you also hear a scratching noise when braking. Inspect your brakes immediately.

Other suspension problems: Jack up the car as suggested above, check if the wheel has a slight play on the sides. Check all of the suspension components, suspension mounting points, and steering linkage for damage. Also, check the frame rail for wrinkles. It is very important that these components be in good condition, if you notice any problem here, go immediately to a mechanic.

Try doing the simple test above, reinstalling the wheel and working the tire back and forth. This is a common test for bad ball joints and wheel bearings.

SOURCE: the car won't start in the morning

Let's test the battery. Turn on yout headlights ant try to crank engine.
If the headlights dim, the battery is dead. If the headlightd go out you have a bag connection.
Now if the battery is dead we need to start it to ck the charging ststem.
If the indicarion is a bad connection then the battery cables beed removing clean and tight reinstsllation( special attento both ends of boyj cables.
To ck altrnator engine must be running and uou need a 10 dollar multimer from a parts stor and then get back to me K?

SOURCE: e320 car key doesn't work

Try both of your keys in the ignition, if neither turn, then it is likely the EIS Key Switch. The part cost for the switch is $480, vs. the cost of a key is $210. The labor to replace the switch is typically $260 from a Mercedes Benz dealer. I had my key and switch replaced almost 2 years ago. The key still looks like new, however the replacment key has already failed. It isn't the batteries, as the internal batteries power the remote locking only. The EIS switch energizes the chip in the key. My "new" key will not turn now, but my old "original" key still works. So, I know the switch hasn't failed again. Now to see if Mercedes will warranty the replacement key! Another tip with the key is if you hold it by the door lock and unlock it if you hold the unlock down, it will start to lower the windows to cool the car in the summer before you enter. If upon exiting, you hold the lock down, the windows will all close.

I've changed my engine mounts 3 times on my 2004 A4 cabreolet and they fail within miles(start to vibrate & then within a week, severe knocking) the 2nd time, also changed the ****** mount, 3r

Engine mounts do not go bad in five miles. Sounds like you're treating a symptom and not the cause of a more serious issue. Are you sure all cylinders are firing correctly? That the severe knocking is not coming from your engine internals? Have you checked the steel around the engine mounting points for cracks or other damage? And just in case, if the mounts you are using are poly, are you lubing them before installation?

1988 Mercedes Benz 300E 3.0L Gasoline F.I. ''Sputtering at Idle

ok..you must have more than one car???? you don't drive the 300 atall im guessing. #1 start car drive up the road and \back to your house. #2 let it idle till problem starts. #3 once it does start with the problem keep it alive with the gas pedal. #4 once your have it safely from dying in higher rpms "rev it" like a kid would, you know like if you were gonna race some one lol. be careful not to over rev or damage engine. you should do this for five minutes no longer than that. #5 let it idle for another 5 minutes. #6 repeat every day until problem with idling decipates. it took mine 3 300e like 3 days of this. if your not going to drive the car once you get the problem out of the way. turn the car on everyday and let it idle for 5 minutes atleast and take it for a short drive once a week. they get lonelly you know lol. later on you can just turn the car on every 2 -3 days and let it idle but still take it on a short drive atleast once a week
