Could be either. here;s a couple of ways to test it. Crank the engine, spray belt dressing on the belt. you can buy belt dressing at walmart or any parts house ( a bar of ivory soap works also) if it goes away then replace your belt. if it continues then you will need to check each pulley with a stethoscope. i bet its the belt because you said it goes away after driving a while.

With the car running, spray WD-40 or equivilqant , one belt at a time when the noise goes away after spraying THAT belt is the culprit.....do first thing when starting car fo first time.

I have a 2008 Pontiac g6. when i drive i get a squeaky noise coming from the front passenger side. sometimes its super loud and sometimes its quiet or none existent. When the noise is there it tends to go...

My first thought is v-belt or serpentine belt loose or bad, may have a problem with the belt tensioner.
If not the belts I would make sure none of the pulley bearing are going out. belt tensioner bearing also. If you remove the belts you can try moving the pulley up/down, side to side see if shaft moves may be bearing. Try spinning the pulley see if it makes the squeaking noise.
If it were a brake pad I would think the car would want to pull some to the right..
wheel bearing cv joint but my experience is wheel bearing, ball joints seem to make more of a rumble than a squeak.

Alternator ford bronco

The best way to identify exactly which accessory or component is making noise is to use a mechanics stethescope with a pointed tip on it. If you do not have access to one, the next best thing is to remove the serpentine belt and feel each individual pulley for binding or play. Also try to spin each pulley fast enough to create the noise.

Makes squealing noise

You need to check the belt that drives the alternator for proper operation. The belt may be old and worn, or a pulley may be not freewheeling, but seized or with a bad bearing. Possibly the tension on the belt is too loose from a worn out tensioner.

First, spray a little water on the belt with engine running and see if noise goes away, possibly a worn belt. Pull the belt off and check all pulleys. Spin them by hand and see if spins easy, no rough feeling or a catch when spun. Check alternator pulley, idler pulley, tensioner pulley, PS pump pulley and A/C compressor pulley-check them all for free wheeling. If good check the tension on the belt when installed. If unsure, have a mechanic check tension with a belt tension tool.
If belt is good and pulleys good, check alternator output with a voltmeter on the battery with engine running. If voltmeter is below 13.5 volts, the charging system is still not working properly. Have it checked out.

Mazda protege makes a squeaking noise when I start driving?

If your Mazda Tribute's engine has a rumbling noise when you start it, this is most likely from the drive belt. You will need to replace it.

2006 Toyota Corolla LE. Loud squeaking coming from serpentine belt area after I start the engine cold. Changed the belt recently but still noice persist. Loud squeaking goes away after driving for 3-5...

It is probably the tensioner pulley that's gone bad. It can be replaced separately, if you can purchase the pulley separately. As to how to go about changing it in such a small space, it's definitely possible, with the right type of tools. That's why mechanics have so many different shapes and lengths of the same size tools.

When i first start my ford ranger the belts making a squeaking noise it does go away when i start driving i used a lubricant spray but it still does it

the belt is probably just too loose. if it is a v-belt you can tighten the slide brackets. if its a serpentine on a tensioned pulley(flat belt), it is stretched and should be replaced.
