The Engine light came on yesterday when I was driving my 1996 Geo Prizm. I checked all the fluid levels, which are fine. It's running good, any suggestions as to what might be wrong?
Nope - none of us are psychic. Take it to your local AutoZone or Advance parts store and have the code read. Since it's a 96 it's OBD II all the modern code readers can interpret it. Then, post the code and maybe some help will make sense.Nope - none of us are psychic. Take it to your local AutoZone or Advance parts store and have the code read. the 1996 will throw a DTC for CMP , DID IT? if engine is dead, the DTC shows up cranking, with a code or RPM dead. In USA< can speak for Canada, where are you, uSA or canada.
The brake warning light tells the driver the parking brake is on, or the fluid in the hydraulic system is low. If the parking brake is not on, and the fluid level is ok, it could be the parking brake switch or the fluid level sensor.
Yes , power steering fluid will smoke if it gets on a hot engine, especially on any part of the exhaust system. Barring anything else wrong with the engine such as a coolant leak, and the engine running OK otherwise, I would say that the smoke is from power steering fluid dripping or getting blown on the exhaust by the fan.
If you do not see a dip stick then you will have to look under the car, it will be a 17mm inset nut, have the car running in N when putting the fluid in
