What's the number of teeth on the timing belt for 3s-fse engine

I know, , experience talks.
we buy new belt and the clerk gabs abox
1: wrong belt in box, last customer returned it like that.
2: clerk gave you wrong box used wrong engine table(GATES)
3: you told clear wrong and he did it wrong.
4: learn that some engines even same 1.6L displacement had 2 head types that year. or series of years.
my car here, has 3 belts sold for it, 2 are wrong, per above.
no belt brand told just 164 code (gates?)

OP never told it is a toyota , nor the year, wow no year.
3s-fse =1987 to 2000 year made. no car model told what can go wrong, answer ALL. that.
DOHC engine 2 cams. CR = 9.8 (3S-FC, 3S-FE, 3S-FSE)
2.0L engine 1,998 cc, 121.93 cu-in
step one make sure both belts new and used, laid top of each other have same number of teeth and pitch. (viewed) if not WRONG belt.
OOPS? (the new belt can be touch tighter.,old belt stretched be longer or even a wreck)
some models have VVT, in the head and may change the T belt USED, no car told no year, no VVT told.
1990 turbo?
1990 camry is gates T138
1990 turbo T125

if you buy a belt for the wrong 3s-HE engine you fail
learn what is there, first, under hood. exact engine
turbo or VVT or what, make and model and year not old.

???????????????????????????????????????????????????
we can only beg cars model.

1,3,5,7 cylinder miss fire

Bank1 failure.

my guess, those DTCs off a cheap scan tool>? why not post source and real codes, no lie P0301 is real. but off what?

real engine: Name.

4.7 L 2UZ-FE V8

VVT-i variant??? got VVT? IF ONE SIDE FAILS, misfire there. if cam retarded. if bad, can be 14deg retarded, (huge)

see cam action here.

2003 Tundra.

if using a full real scan tool that sees all toyota extended DTCs , you might see VVT errors, $20 tools and lame autozoned , blind .

there are 4 sensors there, id bet there are codes you missed!

P0301,3,5, and 7, DTC, ONLY?

bad coil packs? no.

thats the whole left bank, bad.

RF 2-4-6-8

LF 1-3-5-7

so, VVT bad on left bank or coil pack ,

yours has 8 COP coils, so its not 4 bad COPS.

a real mech sees all this in 1 second , online, impossible

nor country. sold.\'

could the timing belt slip only on one side

did you do timing belt service, on time, if not, bingo.

misfire is

bad compression (vvt?)

bad spark , no, not all 4

bad fueling, but there is only 1 maf/map, and one full injection rate there so not fuel mix.related.

here is a tool (most AZ stores clueless)

that reads the enhanced DTC of Toyotas

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QIUGVI/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1#productDetails

using a 1996 tool , misses the boat.

but id bet your VVT is bad. left bank.

the real tool might help. here.

you have VVT (var. valve timing, feature)
if yes, dont drive it.
it means the cam and crank are out of sync.
belt engines, need new belt.
chain engines, new chain and may be guides.

The engine light has come on and has something to do with the code 1388. i have since confirmed it is coding for variable cam timer. i want to know how much it will cost me to fix this and the implication...

VVT bank two cam over retarted.

This usually indicates a physical issue with the VVT unit or the timing belt/chain. Most VVT units default to zero so if there is some electrical failure the car will still run well enough to driver. But, since you are getting this code it seems to indicate a mechanical issue instead. An over retarded cam will pull in too much exhaust gas on the intake stroke and can cause a loss of power or a mis-fire since the mixture will be lean. If this code is caused by a jumped chain or stretched belt, it can lead to serious engine damage if those parts should fail.
