MY TACOMA IS APPROACHING 100,000 MILES. IT'S A 2006 AND WILL NOT GO INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE. THE GREEN 4X4 SYMBOL FLASHES. THE LAST TIME I HAD IT IN 4X4 MODE; I HEARD A LITTLE CLUNK WHEN I TOOK IT OFF OF 4X4 MODE. WHAT HAPPENED AND WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO FIX IT? IT IS AN EXPENSIVE AND TECHNICAL JOB? SHOULD I JUST GET AN EXTENDED WARRANTY?

are your pads, shoes good and not worn to the metal. is the fluid level correct. check these before replacing sensors and other money wasting parts
SOURCE: 2006 Toyota Tacoma Low Mileage or Not...Spark Plug Life
24 mpg on the highway is actually pretty good for that truck. at 48000 miles and being 3 years old its time for plugs, air filter, and fuel filter if available. thats cheap maintenance for now. but if very self conscious, run some fuel injector cleaner first, then change the plugs, because any octane booster or fuel injector cleaner can run the risk of fouling out a plug, by creating a hotter spark then what, normal gas does. the burn is hotter.

it's better safe than sorry, if you replace the plugs every 30,000 miles it's only going to cost you about $120 over the life of the vehicle.

Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. The check
engine light is on because ECM (Control Module) detected a fault with your
car's system. ECM has self-testing capability. When the computer senses
that there is a problem with some of the components it stores the correspondent
trouble code(s) in its memory and lights up the "Check Engine" or
"Service Engine Soon" light to tell you that there is a problem and
your car needs to be looked at. You'll need to get the codes checked from a
nearby dealer/mechanic. Please revert with the codes so that I can tell you
where exactly the issue is.
Please do rate the solution and revert for further
assistance.
Thanks
