I need to replace the oil pump in my 1997 jeep wrangler SE 4 cylinder but don't know where it is. Looking for a diagram or directions how to do it. Trying to do it myself to save money.

So how do you know you need one if you dont know where it is?? Oil pumps rarely go bad unless the engine is sludged from lack of maintenence. After you take the oil pan off, its there hanging down. Make sure you clean or replace the pick up tube. I'm sure you can google up torque specs, for the bolts. Usually there is major engine damage by the time you figure out that there is lack of oil pressure. I would get a professionals opinion before you waste time and money replaicing the oil pump. If the engine has any unusual noise or knocking, its too late.

Describe your 1997 Jeep Wrangler 1997 jeep wrangler 4 cyl idle fluctuates 900 rpm to 400 rpm after warmup no service engine light but check guages light comes on momentarily when rpm gets low and oil press...

The check gauges light is normal because at 400 rpm it isn't running fast enough to build sufficient oil pressure. I am guessing maybe a vaccum leak???

Oil pan removal on a 97 jeep wrangler

Instructions can be found in any basic manual but the simple version is to remove anything obvious that will be in your way (starter, trans lines etc). Disconnect both engine mounts and raise engine to get better clearance (watch stuff on top so you don't break anything) I usually stuff a couple of 2x4 wood blocks between engine & mounts to support it. Remove all pan bolts and take it down (remember pump pickup will interfere) Do what you need to do, then reverse process.

95 jeep wrangler: gauge indicates 0 oil pressure

Wire on oil sending unit may have fallen off or sensor itself may have gone bad. Check both. If engine has no tapping noises, likely it's not a pressure problem.
