1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee shuts down while driving.

my 1998 jeep grand cherokee electrical system started shutting down while driving. i heard ticking sounds coming out from by the interor fuse box. after checking each fuse the fuse in the #16 slot (the fuse for the CTSY LPS 10A) is causing the ticking sound while putting the fuse in and out.whats next? please help.

Your jeep should have full time four wheel drive. To place the transfer case in low range look down to the console towards the rear and you will see a "T" shaped handle. To place it into low range you should stop place the vehicle into park and lift the T handle and in the dash a 4X4 indicator lamp will light up. The traction button on the dash would be used in 4 wheel high mode when you start to experience wheel slippage upon take off from a stopped position. This will give you a little more control. You only need to use the low range for very slow speeds in mud or snow. Otherwise just leave it in high range because it is always using 4 wheel drive. This is a very reliable system which Jeep has refined over the years. Your Grand Cherokee is not designed fro hard core off road use. Hard core off road use will destroy the undercarriage. The Grand Cherokee is more of a luxury soccer mom 4X4 with good road manners, a comfortable ride, and good reliability.

sounds like battery voltage is falling below 10.5v when not being charged

when this happens the computer will shut down

load test your battery
if you do not have the tools take your vehicle to an auto parts store and they will typically do it for FREE

It sounds like you might be having a cat. problem, sounds like it is getting plugged up.

if it grinds then shut the truck off and then switch to two wheel drive

Try resetting the asd "auto shut down fuse had a similar problem the jeep would crank but did not get spark or gas also check your fuel pump? and the asd relay may be bad it will prevent the jeep from getting no spark and will not fire some jeeps have security problems

the cargo light right at the back hatch is a switch...I have the same jeep and could not figure out how to shut off the lights, I figured this out after a while.

Starter...if the starter is old, it is getting heat soaked. Replace the solenoid.

What u mean that it cannot be dublicated in the shop?
