Where is the fuel pump relay on a 1998 Audi A8 Quatro with a 4.2L V8. In have a fuel pump that doesn't run and I would rather replace a relay than the pump.

There is no inertia fuel cut-off switch on your car: 1999 Audi A8 4.2 Only fuel pump relay. See picture bellow - The engine management diagram: (Send me back please your e-mail address if you need bigger pictures)
Don't use starter fluid the car becomes addicted to it very quickly. Have you checked that there is power supply to the pump / fuse / relay. If there is then check that the fuel is flowing through the pipes / fuel filter and into the fuel rail
Firing order for 2003 (B6) Audi S4 4,2l V8 engine is: 1 - 5 - 4 - 8 - 6 - 3 - 7 - 2 Cylinder no.# 1 is first one from right front side of the car, and cylinder no.# 4 is the fourth one (front to rear) on the right bank of cylinder block. See picture below:
check in the trunk ,remove the carpeting and you should find a round access cover remove all the screws and the fuel tank will be visible. now ther will be a large plastic nut you have to unscrew it to get to fuel pump. fuel pump is in the tank. i would first make sure the fuel pump relay is good.
