Do not have a lots of power in take off

1998 Frod Explorer, EB, 6 cycle
1. have a ralling sound with start up.
2. slow in take off
3. when you going 30 to 40 mph it **** some time.
4. lose power on take off.
5 loose power going up a hill take a while for it to caught up
and go the max speed

First i would do a compression test and see if the pressure is still correct for the engine. this will explain most problems, compression testing kits don't cost that much, do the test and see if you have one or more low compression in the cylinders. if you have it could be a weak or sticking piston ring or its snapped rings, ralli sound does not sound good could be the timing chain and adjuster or the timing belt depending on engine number. if it is this dont un engine anymore and have this fixed or you will need a replacement engine.

SOURCE: the car will not accelerate;

this sounds like 1 of 2 possible problems.
a bad headgasket or a clogged catalytic convertor. i would lean more towards the convertor

hi the firing order for a 5.0-302 is 15426378 and the fireing order for a 351is 13726548 save to file and zoom in

SOURCE: loss of power going up hill

fuel pump is bad. they are under extented warranty from ford. take to dealer and "insist" they change it. there is service bulletin on this, but dealers often play "dumb".

SOURCE: thermostat went up to HOT, then over a 40 minute period acceleration died to about 40 MPH and could not go over a hill. when engine turned off, looked under hood to find engine was not hot at all.

Check for head gasket problem, what do the fliuds look like?

Throttle position sensor
Plugged fuel filter
Fouled spark plugs or bad wires.

Need wiring diagram for spark plugs

Firing order for V6 is 1-4-2-5-3-6 If your standing in front of the car looking towards the windshield 1-2-3 are on the PASSENGER side and 4-5-6 are on the DRIVERS side front to back.

Firing order for V8 is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8...Again looking from the front 1-2-3-4 is on the PASSENGER side and 5-6-7-8 is on the DRIVERS side front to back.
