I ran out of diesel in my 2005 Audi a3 now car wont start and the oil pressure light comes on when i try to start engine, should i take it to a garage?

Hi. It maybe you have engine damage from the low oil pressure. You will have to get the oil pressure tested and probably strip the engine for repairs if it has low oil pressure problems.

side the engine i would assume ,why? do you have low oil pressure

replace oil,check oil pressure with external gauge, if ok replace oil pressure sensor. if not, then there is a engine mechanical problem

Could be this fancy oil ,like the newer 0/30 multigrades ,try using a straight 40 monograde oil ,you have a pressure problem with the internals and it could be anything from worn oil pump to worn mains ,another trick is too add some winns or STP oil thickener and sell it quick or this will cost a arm and leg to repair ,maybe another engine from a accident damaged car in the scrapyard .

CHECK THE MAIN 150 AMP FUSE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.

No.# 31 fuse (25A - white colour) placed in the engine bay fuse box / relay plate, is for the front windscreen wipers for an Audi A3 2005 2.0 TDI. See pictures below:

If by pulsing you mean that the idle is fluctuating up and down, this is caused by oil/sludge build up in the throttle valve. To rectify this remove the intake pipe at the throttle valve. Use engine cleaner/degreaser on a rag to clean out throttle valve around throttle butterfly. Open butterfly manually to assist access. The oil pressure light coming on is usually caused by the oil pump pick up becoming blocked by carbon and sludge in the oil sump. If you have a suitable oil pressure gauge, check the oil pressure at the oil switch. Oil pressure should be 3.5- 4 bar at 2000 rpm at operating temperature. If pressure ok, Pressure switch may be faulty. If pressure low you will have to remove oil sump and clean out or replace oil pump pick up. If not done, may result in major engine damage. Sludge and carbon build up caused by oil not being changed often enough. Best to use a synthetic oil.

My 2005 A4 3.0 convertible audi is not a diesel, but I had a similar experience with a low oil signal going on and after checking the oil, which was sufficient, and replacing the dipstick, the light did not come back on until a subsequent trip. The light usualIy went on when I was close to the needing an oil change. I've had the car, a used one, for about two years, and the oil light minimum signal started behaving like yours early. About a week ago the oil pressure warning light came on. I don't know if there's a relationship, but if there is be careful. Audis of our vintage have a problem with sludge build up that damages the oil pump, which is a costly item. If you drive the car with low oil pressure you may seriously/fatally damage the car. I don't know if the sludge, if that's what you have, can be cleaned out, but I'd do it if it can be. My mechanic advised me to trade the car to a dealer rather than fix it.
