The ABS light comes on when the ABS module detects a fault in the ABS system. There are dozens of component failures and open/shorts in wiring that will set the ABS light, ranging from a faulty wheel speed sensor, open/short in wheel speed sensor wiring harness, faulty hydraulic unit, fault electronic brake control module(EBCM), faulty tone ring, etc. There isnt a relay or reset procedure to turn the light off- it can only be turned off by repairing the fault responsible for turning it on, and then using the factory scan tool to erase the fault code and reset the light.

While it is possible the majority of the faults to be repaired at home, the fault codes can only br retreived with a diagnostic scanner with ABS capability. This has to be done first in order to know where the problem is to either repair or do further diagnostics to determine if it is a faulty part or a wiring harness issue. If the problem is in the hyrdaulic unit, this would need to be replaced by a shop as it will require bleeding afterwards with a diagnostic scanner.

I would advise spending the $50-70 to have the on-board computer read for stored ABS fault codes. Considering that most sensors cost that much themselves, you can quickly sink much more than a diagnostic fee into replacing parts based on "what usually goes out" guesses

Hope this helped (remember comment and rated this).

go to parts store & check codes. sometimes they do it for free that will tell you if theres is a wheel speed sensor bad. also check all the brake lights some vehicles will disable the abs if there is an open circuit (bad light bulb)

Hi...i have a 2005 chrysler town & country sto & go LX 3.3L V-6 mini van....for some reason the brakes r acting up....sometimes they work sometimes the pedal goes all the way to the floor....master...

its sounds like it could be a bad master cylinder with an internal leak.it could also be a problem with the abs hydraulic module that for some reason is bypassing brake fluid within the unit itself.these problems won`t neccessarily turn on the dash light or activate the abs light.

Electrical issue

Check the fuses in the fuse box just above the battery and see if there is anything (fuses) that popped. I did the same thing but got away with nothing being damaged.

I got the ABS Light on my 2005 Chrysler Town and

Stop at a Tuffy or other shop and they can scan for codes to tell you which sensor may be faulty. Wheel sensors are easy to replace.

ABS light on

ABS is not working then. A visit to the mechanic will verify this. Be carful driving as your breaks will not be as effective in wet or winter conditions. It probably one or more of the sensors that's stopped working.

Abs light stays on

No need to untill you fix it. Bad abs senser or sencers. And you need the decoding tool to reset.
