Lately,my engine light has been coming on, it only comes on after i get gas. I've notice that i have to push on the gas cap and click 3 times to may the engine light go off in about 3 days. Do you know what could be the problem? Can the gas cap be replace or Is it the sensor that's going bad?.
I think you may be overfilling your gas tank. If you do this, petrol can get down the vapour lines to the charcoal cannister under the hood causing it to become saturated. This in turn would set off the cannister purge sensor and cause the check engine light ot come on. Try filling your tank only to the first click-off.
The "check engine" warning light advises that the vehicle is in "fail safe" mode. That means only some of the car's capabilities are operational, just enough to get you to the nearest service point. You probably should not drive it any further than that. Have your service man download and analise the fault codes from the ECM which will indicate what the problem is. It may not have anything to do with the gas tank and the appearance of the warning light is purely coincidental. In any case there is a sensor returning bad data.
Thinking more on this...I think it's cause could be the catalytic converter. This would account for the come and go nature of the problem. The O2 sensors have to return a required value and if the converter is on the way out, they may not always be able to do this.

Woozie38, Thanks for your solutions but this is somewhat helpful to me. Lately, I haven't been filling my tank up to full. Today i will be going to the gas station to put more gas in my car, the light came on yesterday after being off for about a week. The light comes on,goes off occassionally. I need to find a solution quickly. It's begining to be a bother.
If you can give me something else, I surely would appreciate it. Thanks again,
