You are talking about the thermo electric cooling fan, its operation is independent of the car's electical system. It is switched on and off by the engine temperature. When you park, the engine heat soaks upward to heat the thermostat turning the fan on. It will run until the engine cools down and the thermostat switches it off. Quite normal operation.

so if the fan runs till the battery is dead would that be the thermostat going out? the temperature on the car is normal not running hot

  • woozie38 May 20, 2010

Yes, that's what it means. You may need to replace the thomostatic switch. An unusual thing to have to do. This fan does not always run, depending on the weather condition at the time. Also it will operate whilst using the air conditioner.

my 2007 Jetta does this and runs loud when I am driving around. It did't do that last summer. Did something blow or has something failed?

It will be shut off automatically after the temperature is brought down. Engines heat up more when ur not moving as less air is going against the engine to cool it thats why fan still remains running till engine cools down. Cheers!

Fan in 2005 Vw Jetta 2.5 is causing battery to drain, Is there any fuse that I can pull to stop the fan from draining the battery until I get paid and buy the part needed

the problem with pulling the fuse for your fan is that your fan wont come on anymore therefore it won't cool the engine and your engine will probably overheat and that is a very dangerous thing for the motor. A temporary fix would be to pull the fuse and put in a toggle switch then you could turn the fan on and off manually. You need a toggle switch that flips on and off only. There are two connections for the toggle switch. Connect two wires to the toggle switch and run one wire to one side of the fuse and the other wire to the other side of the fuse in place of the fuse itself.

2005 volkswagon jetta cooling fan wont turn off

temp switch fail most likely. fail safe keeps fan running so engine will not overheat. temp switch will be screwed into engine block. may be cover by cover, hoses or something else but pretty easy to replace. DO COLD for the sensor is in the collant port of the engine and will leak a little when changing. Good luck hope this helps.

My 2005 Dodge Ram 3.7 keeps overheating in city, or ''stop and go'' driving. It goes to normal temp when I am on the highway at a consistant speed.

In stop and go traffic will normally cause a car/truck to heat up more using the a/c. The most common cause is low coolant in radiator or a sticking thermostat. Check the coolant in radiator and check the front of radiator for any restriction to the air fins on radiator causing a blockage to keep the air from cooling the radiator. Check the clutch fan when cold by turning it by hand, if it turns free it will be ok. If you had run the truck and the coolant is hot try turning the fan by hand and if it turns free at that point the fan will be no good. Replace the fan. Hope this will help you.

My ford excusion vent fan is running even when engine is off. No key in car and I can turn my vents all the way up and it will blow tons of air into car?? Ran battery out overnight.

If this has EATC automatic temp control. You will probably need a blower speed control module. This controls fan speed in all ranges and sounds like it has internally shorted causing this concern.

the fan maybe running the right way, it should be sucking air in through the condensor, check out first. If so maybe moisture in system would require evacuating
