I own a 1997 gmc jimmy an my gas gage dosent work an i was wondering what the size of the tank is an how many miles per gallon i can or will get

Your tank is 19 gallons and you get about 18 miles combined miles per gallon. Thats city and highway. Highway is around 21 and city is about 16.

They had a few different size tanks but you can find out what you have by following these instructions. When the fuel gauge needle gets to the empty mark at the red zone fill the tank up and add 3 gallons to the pump reading you receive.. The top of the red zone tells you 3 gallons of fuel is left in the tank

check for a leak in the gas tank above the 1/2 level it could have a pin hole. it could also be a bad vent valve on the tank or in the EVAP system that needs to be checked out.

Unfortunatly you have aproblem with either the dash control module or the dash itself which will need to be replaced.

Fuel gage stuck on full in my 1997 GMC Jimmy
Sounds like the float on the sending unit got stuck. This is a backyard tactic but... Try hitting the bottom of the gas tank with a hammer and see if it frees it up. Don't go and beat the hell out of it. A few decent whacks and it should come free. If not you'll need to have the fuel pump/sending unit replaced.

The fuel pump is located on the top of the fuel tank in most models, and it necessitates removing the fuel tank completely for access. The average backyard mechanic can replace a fuel pump in a Jimmy in about an hour.

When empty fuel gage show full, I put 2 gallons of gas and it show 1/2 full
If your lucky, it's the wire harness from the frame to the gas tank. If your not lucky, it's the sending unit in the gas tank and that's expensive.
