I have a 2004 chevy cavalier and the wipers do not work at random times. Sometime the wiper will not start at first and stop in the middle and then start working again. I really do not want to get caught in a downpour and the wipers stop working. What is the probably cause the switch or motors? thanks in advance.

The windshield wiper motor module is part of the windshield wiper motor cover and controls wiper motor operation , This part fail's a lot . Testing the wiper / washer system is the way to a fix . Pulling the connector off the wiper motor module an checking for B+ voltage an groun circuit's , Testing switch input voltage etc... Reading factory service repair info. on how the wiper's work ,for rookies !
The windshield wiper motor module is part of the windshield wiper motor cover and controls wiper motor operation. The accessory voltage supply circuit to the windshield wiper motor assembly is used to operate the wiper motor in all modes. The windshield wiper motor is a 2 speed motor and is operated at low speed in all modes except HIGH. The accessory voltage supply circuit to the windshield wiper/washer switch is used to supply the windshield wiper switch signal circuits. The windshield wiper switch signal circuit voltage levels to the wiper motor module determine the wiper motor operating mode.
When the wiper/washer switch is in the LOW position voltage is supplied through a 24K ohm resistor within the switch to the windshield wiper switch signal 2 circuit, and accessory voltage is supplied to the windshield wiper switch signal 1 circuit. The reduced voltage from the wiper switch signal 2 circuit and accessory voltage from the wiper switch signal 1 circuit causes the wiper motor module to close the wiper motor accessory voltage supply circuit to the wiper motor low speed terminal.
Windshield wiper/washer system MIST operation is identical to LOW operation except that the MIST switch is a press and release type. When the wiper switch is moved to the MIST position and released, low speed wiper motor operation is started and will continue until 1 cycle is complete. If the wiper switch is moved to the MIST position and held, the windshield wiper motor will operate in the LOW mode until the switch is released.

Windshield wiper motor park operation is controlled by the wiper motor module using an input from the park switch within the wiper motor assembly. When the windshield wiper/washer switch is turned to the OFF position while the wiper motor is somewhere in mid-cycle, the wiper motor module will continue to operate the wiper motor until the wipers reach the park position.

My 2004 chevy cavalier wipers sometimes do not stop when I turn off the switch. I have already changed the wiper switch and no change. Any ideas/

You may very well have a bad wiper module. On those particular wiper motors, they are equipped with a "module" and am not sure what it's actual; name but it controls the intermittent function, low speed and high speed. Those will go bad over time and sometimes "moisture" kills it. HI hope this helps you repair the issue. Jesus loves you, John 3:16-17 (KJV)

Windshield wiper driver's side went limp wind

THe wind doesn't just push the power arm off, it must be broken and will need be replaced, You need to check if the actuall bracket that holds the arm is broken as well. It has teeth on it which when the arm is put on it lock in place with a clip

Driver side wiper not working!

its a small, white plastic "nut" on the wiper transmission arm- find one in a junkyard-snap it in and you can solve it for 2 bucks-takes about 10 minutes to do. Cant get the part separately without buying the entire transmission, which you dont want to do- common problem with cavaliers and sunfires of this year.

On a 2004 Cavalier when I turn on the wiper full blast it works fine But when its on slow or delay it pulsates and doesn't stop in the proper place.

Chances are good that the wiper motor is the issue. The "park" mode for your wipers is controlled by the motor.

2004 Cavalier Wiper Motor

hi, im not sure if they would have a separate motor each because most vehicles have a linkage bar that connects the two wipers to keep them in time with each other. without the wipers on, try manually rotating the paasenger side wiper (be gentle) if that moves easily and the drivers side does not even flinch, then it could be a broken linkage. hope i helped!
