Could be a rock stuck between the brake rotor and calipers or dust sheild...on the other hand could be badly worn brake pads wearing metal in metal.....maybe even worn wheel bearings. when was your last brake inspection(worn brakes)? have you been driving on gravel roads(possible rock)? how long has this noise been occurring for(progressivly getting louder?-does braking effect if(worn brakes)? is it louder when cornering hard-and will it go away when turning the opposite direction (wheel bearings)??

Grinding noise front wheel

1st have the brake pads checked, then if the pads are OK you likely have a defective wheel bearing/hub assembly

check for failed wheel bearings or loose wheel on studs. Check suspension ball joints and steering joints the problem is serious so have the front inspected by a competent mechanic

Front driverside tire hesitates when the vehicle starts moving

Sounds like you have a bad wheel bearing. These cars are known for that. It could also be a bad CV joint [axle] , but it won't usually make your wheel hop. Jack car up and try to move wheel top to bottom. There should be no play at all. Try spinning the wheel while it is off the ground, if it's a bearing, you will hear a grinding noise. If it's a bad CV joint, you will hear a clicking. Let me know if this was helpful to you, and until you get it looked at, I wouldn't drive it, as the wheel can fall right off if it's a bearing. Good luck

2005 Ford Explorer is making a grinding noise

I had some issues with my 2005 explorer left rear. It was making a creepy old door sound at low speeds and then a high pitched whisel at high speeds. That turned out to be a broken wheel bearing and had it replaced. Note each wheel has two wheel bearings. After that a new noise developed that sounded like metal scraping/ grinding metal. It end up being the brake dust cover got bent when they replaced the bearing and it was rubbing something, the fix for that was bending it so it didn't rub. I hope this helps.

Noise coming from passenger front wheel tire feels loose when jackedup andpulled on

If you grab it at the 12 oclock and 6 oclock positions and try to pull and push on the tire/wheel, do you still get this movement? is the noise like a constant grinding or deep drone type noise? Odds are the wheel bearing is failing. You need to stop driving it immediatly and have it checked, if it is the bearing it could overheat and lock the wheel up while driving and cuase a serious accident...
Hope this answers your question
Sincerely

2006 dodge ram crew cab 4x4 Just had new pads and rotors on front end and still have a slight rubbing/grinding sound but only seems to be from driverside front.

If you start to hear it about 30 - 40MPH and the noise changes if you steer to the left or right than it may be worth checking the wheel bearing.

Loud grinding in front driverside brake when applied, the pads are only half worn and I can't feel any significant grooves in the roter

do u only hear the noise when braking? those vans r prone to wheel bearing failure. the noise will always be there and will get loude with speed. the other thing it could be is the backing plate behind the rotor. all u have to do is gently push/pull it away from the rotor.generally if the wheel bearing has failed and the van has ABS the abs warning lamp will come on from time to time the eventually stay lit permently.

Grinding noise in front wheel

Most likely bad wheel bearing. If you have ABS then you may need to get the bearing assembly that has the ABS ring on it if it comes as an assembly.
