How can I fix a smell coming from air conditioner Dodge Intrepid

take it back to whoever you bought it from and tell them to fix it

check if there is a oil or coolant leak dropping on the exhaust system and the fumes being sucked in by the AC fan . If there is a AC gas leak the air conditioner will soon only blow hot air.

There usually is a vent option for recirculated or cabin air. Have you tried to change what setting it is on , you may need to clear cabin air. I am not familiar with this model , but cars are coming out now with cabin filters, they need to be changed depending on driving conditions ie dusty , dirty conditions need more changing

I had a similar problem with my 2003 intrepid. The problem turned out to be the control panel. I went to a salvage yard and got one.

could be an a/c leak, could be mold in the vents.....there are vent cleaning kits you can get at most auto parts stores....they consist of a spray that kills mold, however you do not want to use them if you dont know how to take the ductwork out of the dash as it may leak and destroy electrical components in the dash.

could be expansion vavle is stuck,the bad smell
if it smells like chemical smell could be freon leak
in ac core or if smell is like mould its dirt rotting leaves etc in air intake, remove grill under wipers and vacuum out.

There is a recall on the fuel rail for your vehicle. In my case I had 2 leaking fuel injectors. The intake manifold needs to come off, but it pretty easy to change the o-rings on the leaking injectors. Costs is about $25 for the new o-ring and about 2 hours of your time.
