Re: Get code for 2000 toyota camry without obd2 scanner,...
Do not jump pins. a 93 is obd 1, and obd 2 scanner can be hooked up to identify the problem. Go to a parts dealership and they will read the code free of charge

A scan tool will turn off codes alerts, but depending on the severity, the CEL will come straight back on, or it might come on a week later when set parameters aren't met. I had the CEL on on my Lexus. The dealership told me it needed a new thermostat and the cleared the code. About 2 weeks later it came back on. I asked my tire guy and he also said it was the thermostat. I told him that the car wasn't overheating and it seemed fine. He read out the parameters for the code and it was something like 'Coolant temperature not attained 110'F within 4 minutes and 30 seconds'. Sometimes it did and sometimes it didn't. The next time I had my tires swapped over, winter to summer set, he changed the thermostat and it never came back. I have similar with an o2 sensor and with a P4020 Catalytic converter code.
You can get a very basic scan tool for $35, you can also get Dongles that plug into the OBD port and transmit information to your smartphone. I have this one
If you have an Autozone shop near you, they will read the code for free and tell you what it is. Write it down and come back. My Catalytic converter issue was fix by using Cat cleaner in the fuel.
Garages will also read and clear the code for free in the hope of getting the work. If they say they charge a diagnostic fee, got somewhere else. It literally takes 2 minutes.
Incidentally a pro grade scan tool will cost you $3.5k to $5k! Quality wins, but they take a lot of learning.

great question
is it carb or EFI?
1988 in the USA many are carb no scans no computers.
the early cars, with EFI have jumper clip flash codes.
in 1996 the now use standard OBD2 scan tools.
Take it to a shop that has an OBD1 scanner. The parts stores only have scanners that check 1996 and newer OBD2 systems. You can access flash codes but you will need to purchase a manual or find the procedure online. It involves jumping a couple of connectors at a diagnostic box on the right engine fender well.
Code 1705 is brand specific, for Toyota it is for a problem with a clutch sensor inside the transmission. The sensor would need to be tested by a mechanic or someone with the tools and diagnostic info.
You must use an OBD2 reader, OBD2 vehicles do not support self-diagnosis. OBD2 vehicles are years 1996-present!! Bring your vehicle to your local autozone, they would read the codes for free!!
There should be an OBD II plug under the dash on the drivers side. It might have a cover over it so look real close. That actron will give you generic P codes.
