My son drove my 2002 avalanche 2500 during an intense snow storm. he and my wife got gas at a local safeway station and came home. temperatures were in the teens that night. the next morning my son started the av and it ran for about 1/2 block and died. haven't been able to start it since. even at 75 degrees ambient. this vehicle has the 8100 motor. what other than the fuel pump could be wrong with it?

Good question. All you can do is hook a line up to the fuel rail to get some gas so you can inspect it. If the gas looks ok they you probably have either a fuel pump problem or ignition problem.
assuming you didn't put thermostat in upside down, your system may need to be flushed. if radiator is blocked you can feel a cold spot at the blockage when the motor is warm
check all harness connections for water
check for water at the ecm connections if under bonnet
check for water wet air filter
good motto --don't drive through water deeper than the tires from road to rim
the mistake is washing the engine bay
water gets into every electronic connections and shorts out everything
use compressed air in all of the harness connections and use dewatering fluid ( wd-40 or the like )to remove the water
Make sure the firing order is good these motors have a problem with the ignition coils you may have to replace it the tend to short when it is humid like when is snowing or raining.
Well the on/off method sometimes is not Correct.I would suggest you to take it to an auto part store and have them scan it for you for free and they will tell you the exact code with the OBD2 then you can start from there.Good luck
Could be a dirty or snow packed ABS sensor made brake light come on, not 100% sure on yur vehicle. Tire pressures will lower when colder, perhaps all related to snow & cold . If in garage, let it warm up & melt some snow & maybe yur troubles will disappear. I would check tire pressures regardless, they may have been borderline low, and cold caused it to go low enough to trip monitor.
he filled it with diesel??
