THat is the starter my friend but why dont u try to jump start the car and see if this helps. That most likely sounds like a bad battery to me. As you are hearing the starter still is trying to go but doesn't have enough power to kick its gear into the flywheel.

It could be the starter, but first try putting a better charge on the battery...It may have plenty of juice to bring up the lights and radio, but not nearly enough to turn the starter over.

*While you're jumping the battery, take a good look at the cable connections. Loose or corroded clamps can lose the amps you need to crank the starter.

The clicking is the starter relay, and the hard clunk is the solenoid throwing the starter gear in place...but 2 common problems can stop the process at that point; A weak battery, and a bad starter.

Car makes a ticking noise & wont start when i try to start it, what might it be?

Possible that the sound can be that the fuel pump is starting up to pump but cannot be observed as a fault. So unless you check for the fuel pressure and the ignition spark the engine's failure to start cannot be confirmed. Also you need to make sure there is no problem with the fuel, fuel filter.Check for error codes that might help to confirm. Finally the battery must be good and should be cranking well with enough voltage for the ignition circuit.

CHECK IF TURN SIGNALS WORK, USUALLY ON GM CARS IF A BULB IS BURNED IT WILL TICK FASTER, IT IS AN INDUCATION OF BURNT BULB - COULD BE FRONT OR REAR

Ticking noise underneath the car approximately midway.

The sound you hear is the metal parts of your exhaust system and catalytic converter cooling down. Some cars are louder than others but the sound is perfectly normal.

92 range rover county not reliable when engine is warmed up

This is going to sound a bit far-fetched, but I've had a similar problem with a '93 discovery... Turns out the problem was water in fuel tank.

Ticking noise when trying to start car

Hi

Sounds like a flat battery !

Get a jump start, with a good heavy duty set of jump leads.

Then have your battery tested.

Good Luck !

A FixYa rating would be appreciated thanks. !
