Take the rocker cover off and look at the cams for the timing marks ,might be a falt on the back of the cam that has to be level with the head ,also turn engine over by hand before trying to start, remove no1 plug and make sure piston is at the top

these bend valves if belt breaks while running
Align the timing marks on the camshaft gears to the notches on the camshaft cover, using the intake gear mark for the intake gear and the exhaust gear mark for the exhaust gear.

2001 pt cruiser broke timing belt

CHECK AUTO ZONE .COM FOR TIMING PROCEEDURE. I HAVE DONE THIS & IT IS VERY HARD TO GET TIMING MARKS PERFECTLY LINED UP. TOOK ABOUT 3 TRIES. ( CAMS WANT TO MOVE DURING PROCESS.) WHEN TIMING IS JUST RIGHT , IT WILL RUN. MAKE SURE BOTH CAM SROCKET ARROWS ARE POINTING UP. THERE IS A TIMING MARK IN THE VALLEY OF THE EXHAUST CAM SPROCKET TEETH THAT I MISSED.YOU HAVE TO START WITH EXHAUST CAM TIMING MARK JUST BELOW INTAKE CAM SPROCKET TIMING MARK & THEN WHEN BELT IS COMPLETELY ON , MOVE EXHAUST CAM TO TAKE UP SLACK IN BELT. IT WORKS !!!

2.0 L Timing Belt Marks

hi if its a twin cam ford engine you wont find marks on the cam pulleys.what you have to do is take off the cam cover and look at the back of the cams you will see slots in them ,what you have to do is you can buy the timing kit for the engine at the main dealers or you can make you own using a flat piece of metal 5mm thick and100 mm long this fits into the two slots at the rear of the cams to lick them in place and th crankshaft pulley mark should be in line also.best of luck.

1999 Daihatsu Sirion

Your engine is probably an EJ-DE twin cam 12 valve.

Generally Daihatsu belts have marks on them that line up with dimples on the sprockets for the intial phasing. You rotate the engine to top dead centre on No1 piston and install the belt from there. The cams should be not be putting any pressure on the intake and exhaust valves of No1 when phased correctly.
