2003 kia rio I changed the fuel filter the car

2003 kia rio I changed the fuel filter the car idols but when i step on gas pedal it sputters then dies do i need to change the pump?

  • Anonymous May 31, 2012

I had a similar problem, exactly the same... it was a dirty mass air flow sensor... dirt on the little resistor in the sensor caused the engine to think there was no air coming into the engine when you step on the gas, causing it to not inject any fuel, the engine won't rev up and just moans and sputters. CAREFULLY clean the MAF resistor, it probably has dirt or carbon on it. change the air filter... try it again. If not, try replaceing the MAF. You may or may not get a code on this.

Had similar problem, 2003 rio 1.6l idle fine and die when trying to accelerate or lurch and die ran fine in reverse change timing belt, wires plugs, had codes for multi cyl misfire and low injector voltage, still same lurch and die. try wiggle test on sensor plugs and main engine harness between battery and engine . i did this and found car smoothed out, tried wiggle again and car died, took harness apart where i wiggled it and found broken wire to crank sensor.good now

I have a 2004 Kia Rio and it does the same thing. I changed the fuel filter and timing belt and it still does it. Did you solve your problem?

Have the fuel pump pressure checked to make sure that is the problem.

Its recommended to disable the fuel pump to release pressure in the line before removing the filter. Either pull the fuse or pump relay.

I changed the fuel pump in my 2002 kia rio but the gas gage still dont work

Gas gauge has nothing to do with fuel pump. possible causes:

1. Low fuel in tank, get some more fuel
2. Rat chewed the fuel gauge wire or its socket is loose
3. gauge itself is faulty

Where is the fuel filter located on a 2003 kia rio 1.6 liter? I cant find it

For locating the fuel filter look under the car, its just below the back drivers side door, you will see the filter there, its black if its factory and it has three hoses coming off it, basically, find the gas tank and work your way to the front of the car following the lines and you will find the fuel filter. Right by the tire more or less. Try the left side (drivers side) near the rear wheel by gas tank just after the rear door.

60,000 miles or 60 months to replace. Its fairly large and you can see the fuel lines going in and out of it. One nice thing it has snap fittings which makes change over easy.

Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation

Check and make sure you dont have a air pocket in the cooling system. I would have you a/c pressure checked to make sure you didnt over pressurize the system.
