I,m facing a problem with my car e 240 , 2000, when driving over hump, it is touching in the middle , i checked with the mechanic, he says this is normal level for your car , but you can replace the shock absorber, this will lift the car up 2 cm. i dont think this will solve the problem ,,
To alter the vehicles ride hight is a drastic and costly solution. The shock adsorbers will not alter the ride hight as it's the strut assy that determines the vehicles hight, Also ensure there are no excessively heavy items in the trunk . A broken exhaust mounting will lower underside clearences. Check and inspect all mountings. It would be worth measuring your kerd side height with a similar vehicle. I presume you don't mean , side skirts added at a later date on vehicle. Good Luck

i took the whole dash apart once to change my radio. some of the wires inside the dash are either for the emergency lights, air bag or temp sensor. that small hump on the top of the dash near the windshield is a sensor.
Grating sounds like brakes, the brakes have shields at the front and they sometimes bend inwards contacting the brake disc, get under neath and ensure that nothing is touching the back side of the brake discs.
other thing it could be a wheel bearing on its way out although this is a constant noise like a berrrring noise.
if it is a knocking then that will be the ball joint, the other possiblity is bottom suspension arm bushes, these would cause this noise if bad enough, try pushing your foot against the front wheels facing forward with the wheels straight, if the wheel has excessive play either forward or back then thats the fault.
Is the temp guage reading high or are you just suspecting it needs to cool down? Could be thermastat bad or possible water temp sensor bad. Maybe water pump. After next time you run the car for awhile carefully touch the radiator cap and should be hot, if not then coolant is not circulating.
Ford has 2 types of 4x4 system engagement. One is a knob on the dash that you just turn to 4wheel drive high or low. The other system is the 4x4 transfer case shift on the transmission tunnel (hump) between the driver and passenger seats. To shift into 4 wheel drive high while driving, just let off the gas and shift transfer case into 4H position, and continue driving. To shift into 4 wheel drive Low, stop the vehicle completely, put transmission in neutral, shift transfer case into 4Low position, put trans. in gear, and start driving. I am assuming before doing the above, you have locked in ( turned the front hubs to 4 wheel drive position.) Any further questions, let me know.
Sometimes the bushings will squeak when put under load like a speed bump that is normal. But if you hear the same squeak while driving in other conditions you might want to check your outer tie end rod.
