Try your throttle adjustments or idle control sensor. should be on throttle body. unplug and replug random connections near that area while its running and see what makes a difference. also try checking exaust for restrictions in converter. feel for poor exaust coming out of muffler with your hand
Ok, 500rpm is too slow for a 4 cylinder car. Should be between 700 and 800rpm. Otherwise it will cut out at traffic lights etc. Can you have someone adjust the idle speed for you? its not a very difficult thing. There is an idle adjsutment screw on the airflow sensor in the engine air intake. It needs to be done in drive, with A/C and lights on. So you will need to hold the brakes on while the adjustment is done.

1) Auto transmission 2)No air conditioning on 3)Headlights were off 4)The needle is between 0 and 1, like in the middle and 5) No check engine light is on. Thanks for taking time in answering my question :]
To better answer your question I need to know... 1. Auto or manual transmission? 2. Was the air conditioning on at the time? 3. Did you have the headlights on? 4. In Neutral without any of the above on, what is the idle speed rpm when hot? 5. Has the "check engine" light come on lately?
