What battery would you recommend for 1999 Lexus ES300 - (V-6 engine)
Go to the dealer and pay the price. You can't go wrong with the OEM battery. It will almost always be top quality, as the original obviously was!
Battery manufacturers build batteries to customer specs which can vary greatly. Cold cranking amps is very poor indicator of battery quality.(remember the infamous Tork-starter battery for example) The number and size of plates, as well as other factors that have more to do with quality, are usaully not advertised because that would probably just add to the confusion for average consumer. If the original lasted 10 years or even more I would say that is pretty good service! You'd be hard pressed to get that out of an aftermarket replacement. I'd rather have a good battery with no warranty than a poor battery with life-time warranty.

Interstate and Exide are licensed and produced Lexus' batteries. So...doesn't it make sense to check out Interstate's batteries and prices? Their MTP35 (MegaTrnn Plus 35 - 85 months - 640 CCA is superior to the battery that Lexus put in the car originally (which only had 550 cca. Here's the description for this battery on Interstate's website:
MEGA-TRON PLUS - 85 MONTHS - 640 CCA
"This is one of the most powerful batteries in the industry, with one of the longest warranties in the business. With Silver Calcium alloy, it has 22% more life! With up to 880 cold cranking amps and a guaranteed warranty, this line of batteries will fit your passenger car needs."
Price difference? Lexus of Glendale wanted 170.00 for their battery...This superior battery has suggested retail price on Interstate's site of 101.95.
I bought the 1999 ES300 in March of 2006. The dealership (Lexus of Glendale) put in a new battery before they sold it to me. So, the battery only went 4 years and a month.
A parts representative at a Lexus dealer told me that Lexus batteires are produced by Interstate and another company (I believe Exide). If that is the case - and the parts guy who works for the dealership knows what he is saying..Why not get the better battery for less money? (The Interstate MTP35 (MegaTron Plus)?
