How to change fuel filter in 88 firebird 5.0 305.
Car wil start fine and then die out as soon as i press the gas. the fuel pump was just replaced by previous owner. I was told to check pressure and fuel pump and fuel filter. The book says to drop tank but then it says to remove fuel pump through trunk. any suggestions
Some of the Camaro/Firbirds had access to the fuel pump in the rear behind the rear pass seats on top of the hump. Some folks have learned to cut their own access in this area due to the amount of work involved in getting the tank out, as it can be a job. So pull the carpet up in the rear to see if yours has this access. If not you ether have to drop the tank or cut your own access, If you cut your own access you will need to make a good cover, you will need 3 brass compression union fittings 5/16 inch I believe. You have to cut the fuel lines with a hack saw. You do not have room for a tubing cutter, they have to be cut close to each other, but leaving room to get the nuts on the fittings. It can be done this way but first time is very hard to do. Just remember you are playing with a fuel tank, no sparks, no flames, no grinders, no goofs. If done right, next time in is easy, takes about 45 minutes in out with new pump, if pump ever goes bad it can be replaced on the side of the road thru the trunk.
88 you need to drop the tank
