99 pontiac grand prix. Rear tire is moving forward and backward when the car is stopped. There is a broken bar that is bolted to the axle and then to the frame in front of the tire. What is the bar called? I am thinking it might be the trailing arm. I need to know what part to get. The only thing keeping the axle from going under the car is the strut tower.

factory jack to be placed in front of tire inbetween notches on seem. A manual floor jack can be used placing it under center connection bracket for rear wheels. Be shure to block front tires when using floor jack and have car in gear if a manual or park if automatic transmision.

It depends on who does it. If you are doing it by yourself, I would allow at least a couple of hours on each side, although it should take no more than one per side. If you have air tools and a lift, it should take between an hour or two from start to finish, since removing wheels, bolts etc would be fast. Hope this helps you, Rick

Its called a torx bit socket. You can buy them at AutoZone or that type of parts store.

Generally the bushings aren't too expensive (likely about 25-30 each...But, unless you have done this kind of work, driving the bushings out and installing them can be difficult without a press. I've done many in-shop and its nothing like the ones I've done at remote locations using a hammer and chisels etc. You can do this yourself but I'd opt to do the r&r at home and have a machine shop do the actual bushing pressing. If you damage the arm ends you will need to replace the arm or do a bunch of bending to get the bushings back in place.
If you do have a press, than go at it!!
