The exact same thing happened to my 2004 Aveo on the same side. I had it towed to the mechanics and they informed me that GM glues the shoes to the pads and when they seperate they jam up and that locks your wheel. I had to get new brakes on the back so I just did the entire car in case they were all like that. Hope this helps.

You have to change the rear wheel cylinder because it would have been broke. Also the rear wheel bearing also had to be changed. GM charges $180 for 1 rear wheel bearing.
You should flush and change your brake fluid every 24 months. The moisture normally will wreck the brake cylinder.

2004 Chevy Aveo. All passenger windows are not operating?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to model category.

If it is a push toggle switch (push for on, push again for off), yes they are very unreliable as it all relies on a spring and a contact. Easy to check with a multimeter. It could also be a broken wire in the harness that goes from the door to the frame

04 Chevy aveo right rear wheel won't turn after carwash and got below freezing and blizzard. What could of happened and what can I do.

Most likely the brakes shoes have locked hard onto the brake drum on the right rear.

Have the car towed to a brake specialist and they will remove the brake drum and locate and fix the problem for you. I note others have had similar problems with rear brake lock up.

I own a 2005 chevy aveo. The car had been sitting out the majority of the day not being used and the temp outside was minus 23. I went to start my car and the key turned properly but nothing happened, no...

so my understanding is you turned wheel and locked wheel and now cannot turn key ? need to turn the wheel some to remove the pressure off the lock and then turn key while holding wheel.

Passenger rear wheel locked up, 2004 Chevy Aveo LS, person said parking brake was stuck.. coiuld it have frozen that way?

This also happened to my 2004 Chevy Aveo. The drivers side rear wheel locked up when it first got extremely cold in December 2009. I had to change the rear wheel cylinder because it broke. They also found the rear wheel bearing also had to be changed. GM charges $180 for 1 rear wheel bearing. To make matters worse I had to order the whole backing plate which came with the rear wheel cylinder and a whole bunch of hardware.
If you look in the GM manual it says that you should flush and change your brake fluid every 24 months. My mechanic told me that moisture normal wrecks the brake cylinder. I'm not sure what happened to the wheel bearing but from now on I'll make sure to flush my brake fluid every 24 months.

My 2004 checy aveo sometimes does not shift out of

These have a brake light switch that controls both the shift lock solenoid and the brake lamps, so chances are that if it is not a fuse then it is the brake light switch.
