There are two rubber grommets located on the hood-one at each front corner. There are replacements that can be purchased at parts stores (Help brand-usually on those "spin-around-racks"-just ask parts guy you want hood bumpers. These come in different sizes (diameters)-the ones I found and used were a bit small. I used silicone to "fatten" them up. You will see they are adjustable by threading (rotating" them in the hole in your car's hood. What seems like your hood not latching is the hood is not held tight against the latch (constant pressure from the bumpers holding hood up). Your hood is just laying all the way down-you need the bumpers.

Hood won t close

Check out the cable connection between the latch and your internal latch control. Till you locate the problem I would suggest tying down the hood with some sort of strap so it does not pop open at speed.

The hood on my 99 sunfire is closed shut and won't

The cable is probably broken and not connected to the latch. There are two latches, a primary which the cable is connected, and the secondary or safety.
You'll have to try to access the latch from under the car going up between the bumper and the radiator. You may need a body shop to do it.

I have a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo the hood will not open. I had someone pull the latch while I hit the top of the hood to pop, nothing. I have also had someone pull the latch while I pull up on the hood and...

Don't pull up on the front, but press down hard, while someone pulls on the handle.

Try whacking it some more there, too, while latch is being pulled. Another place to hit is at rear of hood on driver's side.
If it still won't open, you may have to get your hand on the hood latch to move the lever that the handle cable attaches to. The lever would have to move towards the driver's side to pop the latch. Sometimes a long screwdriver poked up from underneath may reach the latch. Or you may be able to get your hand in past the grill, or remove the grill to get your hand to the latch.
When you do get it open, put a few drops of oil on the latch mechanism, and see if any adjustments can be made to open it easier either on the hood itself, or the latch mechanism. Just about all cars have a way to adjust the latch.
Good luck.

The hood latch broke. how do i get the hood open with out the latch?

grip the cable with some channel locks and give it a pull if the problem is the lever, if the latch itself (under the hood part) is the issue try to slip a sawzall blade in there and cut that ****** in half

Have someone pound on the front part of the hood while you try to pull the latch. Once it pops open spray the latch with some white petroleum grease

How much does it normally cost to fix a "broken hood release lever"

just the lever?? not much at all. The hood cable--about an hour to an hour1/2 labor plus parts. or are you talking about the hood latch?--that isnt to hard either but may be a little more expensive for the part. Just the inside lever shouldnt cost more than $50 for parts and labor

if the grille screws are accessable remove the grille which should give you access to the underside of the lock, you may need a screwdriver to push the lever aside to release the hood

My hood latch will not open from the inside lever is there another way to release the latch

Take a phillips head screw driver and take out the two screws holding the lever by the sterring wheel you would noramlly pull to pop the hood open. Pull towards you and the lever should slip out along with the cable attached. Take a pair of vise grips, clamp onto the cable itself and gently pull towards you. It would help if you had someone else trying to open the hood while you do this, but you can just check the hood after you pull the cable. That's how I got mine to open this morning. Now to see if the cable is adjustable and tighten it up so the lever does it's job.
