You have a vacuum loss - it is due to the vacuum hoses being removed for what ever reason and now they are crossed. This condition is not bad but it sure must be annoying. Please -take down your vin # - go to the local dealer - [ you do not even need to own the automobile to do this free] - ask the dealer parts department for a copy [ print out] of the vacuum hose diagram. ALSO - ask about RECALLS - this alone has saved people thousands of dollars.

How to replace the incabin filter

access is from drivers side foot well area near accelerator pedal.remove plastic panel from side of center console....pull until clips release and then slide panel rearward as there is atab it slides onto.if you look at heater box just above and to right of gas pedal you will notice a long thin plastic door with a tab on bottom .GENTLY pry downward on tab and remove access cover.reach in and pull old filter out and insert new one.its an awkward angle you may have to twist filter but just work it into opening as it will expand back once inside ofcase.MOST IMPORTANT make sure when installing trim panel on center consle that you you engae the mountig tab near gas pedal with slot on rear of cover.if not cover could move while driving and interfere w ith pedal operation.i hope this helps please let me know.

I have a t reg golf auto only done 30k but takes ages to change form second into third .

this is a computer controlled autobox.on a flat road put it into drive and without using the gas pedal let the car accelerate itself to max speed (about 35mph)then stop and do the same with only an inch of gas pedal.stop then gun it,put your foot hard down to the floor until you reach a speed that is just safe for the road conditions.
you have just reset the computer.....if you drive it gently for a few miles, you may feel a difference,if not then get it onto a diagnostic for a health check....

When slowing down the transmission feels as if it is jerking in to the next gear.

after checking fluid level is correct, try this, to see if it improves...
into drive, let car accelerate without any gas(do not touch pedal)to max speed (about 30/35mph).stop,then with 1/3rd gas pedal, accelerate to max speed(do not move foot)stop, then foot hard to floor, upto about 60mph,then stop.then only using a max of 1/3rd gas pedal, drive for about 15miles.you have just reset the drivetrain computer setings....the car is fitted with a computer controlled fuzzy logic gearbox,it will try to make you drive as eco as poss, but if used harshly the gearchange can be harsh up and down.....
if driven gently 4th will engage at 43 mph, with a slight clunk.

Car won't run without foot on accelerator.

its very important that the throttle body especially around the throttle blade be spotless clean or they will stall every now and then. then progress to refuse to idle at all. take off the rubber air intake pipe from the top of throttle body [has 3 torqes screws] open throtle by hand and look for carbon/grease/soot etc were the throttle sits when closed. clean with toothbrush and some caeb cleaner get all black off and dont forget the blade, both sides and the edges. scrub then rinse with carb cleaner untill shiny.spray some cleaner in the hole that is on top off the body to. that is your idle air controll motor port.put back together.it will be hard to start at first so hold gas pedal half way down untill it starts then slowly [real slow] let foot off untill you are no longer pressing it. put in reverse and let it idle there a few seconds then do the same in drive. that should do it. sometimes it may stall a couple of times when driving dont hold foot on gas just let it die then restart this allows the computer to readjust its idle stratagee

Transmission moves when I step on the gas hard. It's like the lines are clogged.

The transmission moves? In what way? If under hard acceleration your motor mounts could need looking at. Put vehcle in gear parking brake on foot on brake pedal and give it some gas then sudenly let up on gas. If you feel a thud, the tigh motor mount is probably your culprit. You can test the left mount same way but be extra carefull, your psrking brake won't hold as well so use the foot brake when accelerating . Acceleration need not be alot, just enough to make it do what you feel or hear. Motor mounts are not a major problem. good luck
