The ideal time is 75,000 miles. I see owner delay the change up to 120,000 miles. (not recommended)
Timing belt, water pump and tensioner should be change at the same time.
Sounds like a timing belt has snapped. If it is an interference engine, the engine could be ruined (pistons hit the valves and bend them). Check gates belts to see if it is an interference engine. Belts normally snap at 80,000 to 120,000 miles.
The timing belt replacement interval for your 3.5L engine is every 120,000 miles. I would also replace the water pump, the tensioner and idler pullies, and the cam and crankshaft front seals at the same time. All of these components will also have 120,000 miles on them and they will not last another 120K. Failure of any of these components will result in the timing belt having to be replaced again and/or severe engine damage.
Has this been helpfull? If so, please take a moment to provide some feedback by rating my answer.
some people dont bother to change the belt at all(NOT RECCOMMENDED) so, as long as you dont redline it in every gear,it could go on for a lot longer(i hope...)
feedback??
Both the 2.2 Liter 4 cylinder and the 3.0 Liter V6 have a cam belt that must be replaced every 60,000 miles. The cam belt also drives the water pump and for this reason I recommend you replace the cam belt at 120,000 miles when you replace the cam belt the second time. Neither engine is an interference engine.
Somewhere between 90,000 mil;es and 120,000 miles you should do your timing belt. But first make sure you do not have a timg chain. If you have a timing chain, you never have to change it at all.
Replace the timing belt, and the water pump is there is ANY evidence of leagage. Replace the plugs and the wires. Replace the coolant, the oil and the Auto trans fluid. Replace the air filter. This is the MINIMUM required service.
Hey jkcalli!
Have you checked for any error codes?
Since your car is an 850 you should check your fuel pump relay, which is infamous for causing intermittent starting problems. Open the hood and remove the fuse box cover (4 torx screws), revealing the relays. If one of them is a green one marked 103 you should replace it with the newer, improved red relay. A used relay is cheap and should do just fine. Also, you should be able to hear the fuel pump working when turning the ignition to on. After doing this a couple of times the pressure becomes high enough for the pump not to engage. If so wait for the pressure to drop before listening for it again. Here's a topic with some info on the relay and how to check the voltage at the pump:http://www.volvo-forums.com/index.php?showtopic=15505&st=80&p=80586&#entry80586 If fuel delivery is not the problem you should check for spark. If you do not have spark the problem is likely coil, camshaft position sensor or crankshaft position sensor. Good luck!
