I have a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis. The hotwater light flashes on and off but nothing is overheating. I get no heat in the winter and cold air in the summer. Could this be a defective thermostat?
Check your antifreeze with a antifreeze checker to make sure it is at the right temp depending on where you live and how cold it gets there. If you have too much antifreeze the engine temp will not come up to over 200 and also replace your thermostat, making sure to realize they make them in different temp settings. Talk to people and make sure the thermostat you install is the right one for your climate where you live. Sounds to me as though your temp never comes up to what it should be. Also it could be the heater core.
