2001 dodge viper,how do you open hood ,is there more than one latch,released front latch and i know it opns by windshield,but afraid to try as it seems tight

Any chance you can remove front hinge bracket bolts?... then raise front of hood enough to get directly at the latch and release or unbolt the latch? or get penetrating oil into latch?

Maybe remove bumper or wheel wells or whatever to get to the hinge bolts.

Just trying to get you thinking of other ways in.

Hood latch or cable is frozen up (rusted). These can be a challenge to get fixed, because you don't have access. You can try to see if you have access through the front grille or go under the car and look up for the latch. Hopefully you can get to the latch and release it. My worst one was a mid 70s Corvette with the latch by the windshield (hood opens forward). This latch was above the cowl assembly and you had to work around the engine. Good luck...

frozen or broken. try a good whack on front on hood while someone pulls latch, see if you can free it up. no luck? try pounding at driver's side near the windshield while someone pulls latch. no luck? You can crawl under front with a screwdriver and reach up and try to release the latch manually. push the little lever the cable attaches to over towards driver's side. good luck. When open, see if cable operates latch: if good spray it liberally with penetrant. If your cable is broken, just get a new one or visit a salvage yard. The hood latch can be adjusted a small amount.

you will have to try to get to the hood release at the latch from either under the car on the front side of the latch or try to get to the release mechanism from the front of the car through the grill area if its accessible,you will have to get inventive to release the latch.

use a coat hanger and go through grill and hook the hood latch. you can also lay under front of car with a few extensions and a rachet, and take out the bolts that hold hood latch. if both fail. remove grill if possible to get to hood latch. good luck !!

IF HOOD LATCH RELEASE CABLE BROKE AT RELEASE HANDLE YOU CAN TAKE A PAIR NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS PULL THE CABLE ENOUGH TO OPEN HOOD SO YOU CAN REPLACE RELEASE CABLE.

Very common problem with the dodges, look under your dash and you will see where the probably now broken cable use to connect. You can pull it by hand to release the hood, They are not hard to replace, just unbolt the handle unit and bolt in the new one. The cable usually just snaps into a holder on the bracket under the dash. Some if these vehicles came with the hood cable that goes all the way to the hood release latch under the hood if that is the case you can still open the hood you just have to do it from under the car in the front. if the cable is not broken then pull the release then take the side of your fist and pound on the hood starting towards the top drivers side and slowly move towards the latch try it a few times i have to do this every single time on my blazer

Pull the Release again and go to the Hood and then Lightly knock on the hood with your Fist around the Area where the Latch is Located. Do Not Push down on it Just Knock on it with an Upward Motion.
