I would check the computer data for the engine coolant temperature sensor before starting it in the morning. If the sensor is not reading the correct temperature, it could cause the symptoms you are describing.
This idle condition is normal for a cold start, the computer is controlling the idle for proper fuel burn. It is not necessary to wait five minutes for the idle to come down. Allow about one minute before putting into gear and driving.
Fuel pressure may bleed down thru leaky injectors. Try cycling the ignition switch to the run position and back to off several times before trying to start. This will allow the pump to pressurize the lines. If this works, you know your system is bleeding down and should check the injectors if you want to fix it.
If the car starts and runs fine when you first start it in the morning or when its cold from sitting for a few hours after driving it but won't start if you drive it somewhere and get the car upto operating temp and then shut the car off and try to restart it with a few mins or upto a half hour basically when the car is hot then you might be looking at a bad crankshaft position sensor. A bad crankshaft position sensor can keep the car from starting mostly when its hot. If the engine control module doesn't see that signal it doesn't know the engine is running so it never sends fuel to the injectors.
OK, I have this intermittent problem on my 1997 Cadillac Deville. Sometimes, when the engine is hot and sometimes when cold, the starter will click, (solenoid), but the starter will not turn over the engine at all. I have to toggle the ignition switch to the start position and to the ignition position several times to make it work. But, this only occurs intermittently for me, and I have never really gotten stuck more then a few minutes.
The solution, of course, is to replace the starter to get rid of the intermittent problem.
Is the speedometer showing '0' or is it just not displaying any numbers at all?
The fuel mixture is not rich enough for cold morning starts. So it is difficult for the egine to fire the lean mixture. Your fuel injection sustem has some sensor problems. You need to visit your dealership and get them to download the fault codes for you so you can see which sensor is faulty.
