I have a 1996 ford explorer limited. i was driving the other day smelled something electrical getting hot. now my door locks and windows won't work checked fuse it's fine. the factory keyless entry will turn on the factory alarm when lock is pushed twice but does not lock or unlock doors this is really annoying cuz my drivers door key uses the power lock system to unlock the doors and does not unlock manually. i suspect it's a module of some sort but not sure where the lock module is any help would be great
thanks
On a 96' Ford Explorer XLT (like mine) the code is in the trunk of the truck behind
the plastic cover where your tire jack and wrench are! There will be
two plastic knobs that you will have to turn to open and lift it off,
real simple. The code will be on the fender wall, bring paper and pen to
write and will need a flash light so you can see the code clearly.
The code is real close the the plasic and kinda hard to see. Hope this
helps! If you dont see the above, then try looking around in
that area for a 5 digit code, in the fender well or around the jack, or
even around the rear washer bottle. Most people have said its around the
jack.
Hope this help (remember comment and rated).
Heres a rule of thumb. when the check engine light is on, thers an
error code with the motor, if the o/d light blinks theres an error code
with th tranny, if the 4x4 lights flash theres a problemn with the
t/case. i would take it to get the codes read and go from there!
Transfer case is attached to the back
of the transmission. It is the thing with the driveshafts coming out. I have a 95 limited that was doing the same thing... changed the
actuator motor and has worked ever since.
Good luck.
I suggest check your fuses for door lock and the door locks actuator (inside the door).
The keyless lock code is 5 digits and is printed on the sticker that is applied to the silver module.
On the photo above you can't see it.
You have to grab the unit and twist it toward you a smidgeon then it will be easy to read.
The alterantiove is to use an small extenable mirror

also my 4x4 lights are flashing i haven't counted the times they flash but have noticed it
it's not the keyless that is the problem it's the whole system. no power. 4x4 lights flashing 6 times. the keyless is working just no power to door locks to unlock them
