Check to see if your engine oil and antifreeze are mixing.if overheated you burned ur head gasket car will not turn on because it loosing engine compression. to check this you need to do compression test..ur engine will seize if you keep starting it.and letting it keep shutting off.keep damage to a minimum internally

Troubleshooting oil leaks on Nissan Altima

Your Altima uses a variety of different oils to lubricate various components. Normally, these oils won't leak. But when you do find a leak, you will almost always need to have extensive work done on your Altima to correct the problem. However, before you can replace anything, you need to know what kind of oil it is
Check for brown or black oil leaking on the ground or on the side of the engine. This is engine oil. It lubricates critical engine components. A leak means that an engine seal has failed and needs to be replaced

Check for red oil. Red oil is trans fluid. On your Altima, it most likely means that you have a rear main seal on the transmission that has failed. However, any seal on the transmission is possible. Transmission leaks need to be fixed immediately. A transmission can fail catastrophically in 20 minutes of driving if there is insufficient oil in the transmission

Check for amber or brown oil leaking from your trans. This is transmission gear oil found only on the manual version of the Nissan Altima.

I have a 2002 Nissan Altima 3.5L SE Engine that overheated while on a trip. The overheating affected some few components in the engine and they where replaced. However, the car refused to start.

Were the parts installed correctly? All wiring harnesses plugged back in? Did the Nissan quit running before parts were replaced? The overheating may have blown a head gasket.

Have a pan located at the front of my 1999 nissan altima on the right side underneath of the car that is leaking fluid. what is it? it has a hole in the bottom of the pan cause my wife ran over something.

If the fluid is red, it's automatic transmission fluid. If it's anything from honey-colored to black, it's engine oil.

Check both via the dipsticks if you can't visually identify the fluid. Depending on how long it's been leaking, it should be evidenced by a low level of one or the other.

2001 Nissan Atima GXE isn't going into first gear

Hi there,
There is no changable filter in your trans. Its internal. I would check the fluid level first. Make sure that its where it NEEDS to be. Start the car and let it idle. Car has to be running for this. In neutral, pull e-brake, open hood, pull out trans dipstick, wipe dipstick and put it back into the trans dipstic tube. Take dipstick back out and check it for proper level. Sounds like its not. When radiator gets replaced on your Altima, the trans fluid runs through a cooler that is built into the bottom of the radiator. With the cooler lines disconnected, there is some fluid loss. Not much, but if the trans is not filled or re-filled to a proper level (under or over filled out of the markings on the dipstick), that can cause some issues. I would be suspecting that first, since it has been happening after the radiator was replaced. What kind of radiator is it?? Nissan or cheaper aftermarket brand??Let me know what you find and we will take it from here. Just to ease your mind a bit, Nissan trannys are pretty bullet proof and especially in your model. That model car is the most under-rated car Nissan EVER made. The ONLY issue that car has is an intake gasket breaking, thats it. Totally bullet proof. Anyways, let me know what you find as far as the "PROPER FLUID LEVEL". And also check the color of the fluid. Take a piece of white paper, fold it in half and drip some of the fluid on it. Take a look at the color. It should be nice and pink, not dark and black.

Engine overheating and blowing fluid out of vents

fluid coming out of the vents indicates a faulty heater core, but this does not explain the overheating problem. The blown heater core may only be the result. Check the coolant level.Check for coolant leaks primarily at the water pump. Check the thermostat by insuring both hoses to and from the radiator warm up. Check for foamy oil or white smoke from the exhaust indicating a blown head gasket or cracked head. Check to ensure your cooling fan is working.
