Replace the Vehicle speed sensor that is located in the tailshaft housing of the differential case. You will have to index the sensor when installed in order for it to operate correcly.

I have a 94 jeep wrangler, where the speedo no longer works. It started itermittantly, but is dead as a doorknob now. how should I go about diagnosing it, and what is the usual culprit? Thanks for any...

If the odometer still works and the speedo doesn't, the problem is in the cluster. If the odometer doesn't work, then it's merely the cable going to the transmission. See the guys at the parts store for a replacement.

Speedometer stopped working

most likely a broken cable if you slip under the jeep and find where the cable screws into the transmission you can unscrew it and spin it with your finger the speedo should move up if not the cable is broken, replacement can be had at your local dealer
