Are the injectors metering? Just because you have fuel pressure dosn't mean it is making it into the cylinders.

i had a similar problem with 2007 focus,car stumbled couple times,stopped at store for milk, car wouldn't start back up,alternator light blinking erratically.wound up replacing alternator,actually had the old one repaired,shorted diode.bad job was removing it from car.came out from underneath.

1) Remove serpentine drive belt.
2) Disconnect electrical from alternator.
3) Remove mounting bolts.
4) Remove alternator.

Reverse to install.

sorry but the local ford garage are right its got to do it when the mechanic has it ,i would suspect the alternator ,but who knows with these weird faults like this .Best advice i can give here is leave well alone till till it packs up completly

im afraid its the linkage replacement the grease is just there for the lubrication what usually happens is they wear out and only alternative is to replace the linkage
