My 1981 corvette won't start...there is no power getting from the battery to the engine...how can i fix this? I have tried charging the battery and jump starting it. I have also purchased a new battery. When the new battery is hooked up and the key is in the igniton on the auxillary position, it shows that i have between 12 and 18 amps. when i go to start it it goes dead without even turning over...killing all of the power.

If you have no power to anything, such as headlights
radio/wipers etc. The fusable link at the starter may
have fried. Try using a jumper wire from the battery connection on the alternator to the + post on the batt.
If you get you're power back, replace the link wire.
It's a rust colored wire on the battery con. at the solenoid. They somtimes have a yellow tag with the amp rating. This was a fairly common problem back
in the day. Also check for any shorted wires that may
have caused the link to pop, and make sure the alt.
starter and battery connections are clean and tight.
Hope this helps.

1998 corvette will not start says reduced power

If the security light is blinking it will not start. The security system needs to be reset. You will have to have a fully charged battery to reset the system. With a full charged battery turn the ignition forward until the warning lights come on and leave the key in the on position for 15min. Turn key off and wait 10sec. then try and start. You may have to perform this procedure a couple of times, however, it is usually successful the first try. The reduced power light can be set by a low voltage/poor charge battery

Why does it fire when the key is shut off

Ignition switch, bad fusible links, coil, ignition module. I have replaced several switches for this problem. At the coil, when you turn the switch on, there should be power. There also should be power when trying to start the engine. If there is no power while cranking, replace the switch. The reason it hits a cylinder or two is that the power goes to the coil, just not enough to get the engine running..

Battery light stays on

Many possibilities but the alternator is a good place to start, if its plug is loose, then the green relay inside the center console just to the left and slightly in front of the emergency brake will be clicking in connecting and disconnecting the battery( one loud click per time). It will need replacing or simply disconnecting works for the short budget.
