Leak behind water pump in 2000 Subaru legacy gtb

A leak behind the water pump is usually where the pump meets the engine block. It may require a new gasket, but you will have to remove the timing belt covers to get in there and inspect.

Where is the water pump located on a 93 legacy 2.2 liter

behind the timing belt cover... it is driven by the timing belt.... if you are standing in front of the car it will be just below the a/c compressor and to the right .

When an oil pump is supposedly "leaking" while a maintenance/replacement is being performed on the timing belt [at a 100K checkup], where would the leak be "leaking to"?

The pump is driven by the timing belt, so the oil pump shaft sticks out of the engine to access the belt. The leak would most likely be the oil pump shaft seal.

Sounds like you’re skeptical.

Leaking alot of oil out of what appears to be timing belt cover what is the fix?

It is usually the front cam and crank seal ..have to take the covers off and inspect too be sure.. in rare cases the valve covers will leak inside to the cover but I dont think yours is set up that way

Cam seal leak

Replacing the cam seal is really more time consuming than difficult. The EJ-25 motor requires the removal of front covers, timing belt, and the timing gear for the cam that needs replaced. The seal can be replaced without removing the valve cover or cam. The installation is very important on setting the cam timing. Good luck and have a great day.

Cannot locate waterpump--leaking & need to replace gasket please help

It should be behind a mounting plate on the belt side of the motor. Depending on the size of motor it may be behind timing chain/belt cover.

i sugest you to klean the area with large amount of break kleaner and then drive the car to find the exact location of leakage to make the repair easy ...could also just try to tigntnig a bit all the screws again!
