Q7 12V socket Inverter Wattage Question

I want to buy a converter (inverter?) so I can plug a normal uk 3-pin plug into it, and plug it into one of the 12V sockets on a Q7. I can see the type of thing I need, but some say 150w DC 12V to AC 240V, some say 300w DC 12V to AC 240V. Does this mean I need to know the wattage of the DC12V socket?

No you need to know the wattage of the item you are trying to power. To find the wattage of the item you are trying to power is simple. Some will say directly others will give you the amps (ie. .5amps, 1.2 amps.) you take the amps and multiply it by the volts that it says. All this info is on the item you are trying to power with the inverter. The answer is what it will take to power that item. example .5amps x 240v = 120 w so in this instance you would need an inverter that would produce at least 120w so in this case the 150w inverter would work. Good Luck, have a grt day

make a 5 pin plug ---- trailer wire ---- 7 pin socket
converter cable

Pin 2 to pin 1 left turn wire yellow
pin 3 to pin 3 Earth return to body of car
pin 5 to pin 4 right turn wire green
pin 6 to pin 6 brakes light red wire
pin 7 to pin 7 Tail light Brown wire

if it is a rectangular 7 pin then
5 socket 7 pin rectangular plug
Pin 2 to pin 1 left turn wire yellow
pin 3 to pin 3 Earth return to body of car
pin 5 to pin 4 right turn wire green
pin 6 to pin 6 brakes light red wire

refer to narva wiring diagrams to check
could use a 12v dc probe to sus out what the pins do.
might be able to buy a converter cable from a car spare parts shop maybe or make it yourself

I got ac adaptor to wire in my jeep it has one wire do i run it to the battery or to the fuse box?

by an AC adapter I am assuming you mean a converter to make your car DC into AC so you can run appliances that would normally plug into a home? depending on the wattage of the converter you might want to buy some very heavy gauge wire and hook the converter directly to both post on your battery, read the owners/installation guide that comes with the converter

I plugged in an inverter to my cigarette lighter, the inverter didn't work. Then the cigarette lighter stopped working and soon after that the in dash navigation/entertainment system stopped working. I...

The inverter caused a short circuit , the insulation on the lighter socket is earthed out or a cable is burnt and earthed out , disconnect the lighter cable, and check if shorted , if not work back to the ignition switch till you find it.

Radio does not work on '96 cirrus. Sometimes it does, but mostly does not. Sometimes display is totally blank, and sometimes there is a small line on the display. I had the battery replaced awhile back,...

Not sure of the first issue with the radio, but the inverters output is 300 watts at 110v, not 12 volts. If your receptacle is rated at 180 watts that means it draws 15 amps (180/12=15 amps)-I have used a 400 watt inverter in various cars, and never had an issue, and remember just because it is rated at 400 watts does not mean it will draw that much, depending on what is plugged in-a laptop, for example, only uses about 80 watts. Your converter will '**** down' if the load is determined to be too high.
