Transmission issue This will sound like a strange question, but please bear with me. Will turning the steering wheel lock to lock while stationary with the car in drive put some strain on the torque converter and possibly damage it. Someone told me this, but i did not think steering had anything to do with the powertrain. I know that when you turn the wheel stationary you can hear a little strain on the brakes but i did not think that was hurting anything. I know it can harm the steering and tires, but i would think that would be it. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You are right, and wrong, this will not harm anything, the car is designed to do this normally,if not, then the car would not last very long at all,and the steering has no effect on transmission at all.
Turning lock to lock sitting still will not hurt anything unless you do it lots of times. I would be careful taking advice from anyone who tells you otherwise.
turning the steering wheel lock to lock can NOT damage anything in the transmission but if you hold it for extended periods of time you can damage the power steering pump.
Hi:
You are correct: Turning the steering wheel has zero effect on the drive train: It can scuff your tires, and possibly put some wear and tear on the steering and suspension system, but your engine and transmission are safe!
No Issues with Transmission would occur by turning the steering wheel back and fourth, Nor will it damage the brakes. And the only way it would cause a tire problem would be if you sat on concrete and turned the wheel back and forth 100,000 times.
But you are correct. Doing so will not harm your transmission.
Steering and transmission and two completely different components one will not affect the other. I hope that answes your question. thanks for using FIX YA
turning or putting "strain" on the steering WILL NOT have any effect or damage to the torque convertor. However, sitting stationary for log periods of time with the vehicle in gear can cause damge on the torque convertor over time.
