Sounds like a bad wheel bearing to me. Try slightly turning to the left than to the right when the noise begins. If it changes pitch, than it is most probably a bad wheel bearing.

Roaring noise while driving my 95 tacoma

  1. Loose or worn wheel bearings: This can cause a loud, rumbling sound that increases with speed.
  2. Engine problems: A roaring sound could be caused by a problem with the engine, such as a failing alternator or a damaged serpentine belt.
  3. Exhaust problems: A roaring noise could indicate a problem with the muffler, exhaust pipe, or catalytic converter.
  4. Drivetrain problems: Issues with the drive shaft or CV joints can also cause a roaring noise while driving.
It's best to have a mechanic inspect the vehicle to diagnose the issue and recommend the proper repairs. Driving with a loud noise could indicate a more serious problem and could cause further damage if not addressed promptly.

I have a 2005 ford freestyle with 175,000 miles

The car needs some work. Transmissions have parts that wear out. There are clutch plates and other things that have to be replaced. The roaring sound leads me to believe that it is emissions related or the fan clutch is wearing.

2005 Malibu roaring noise when picking up speed

The most obvious reason could be a leaking exhaust, have you checked this? The other possibility is a leaking or displaced inlet filter or housing. Most other noise sources would be obvious during all phases of the engine operation.

Whirling Noise

Sounds like fuel pump pressurizing the fuel system. They do that for 2-3 seconds and then it stops (for fuel injected vehicles).
