P0116 Code; how can I fix - 1996 Audi A6

code p0116 refers to engine coolant temperature(ECT) sensor--range /performance problem===causes--coolant thermostat---poor connection---wiring---ECT sensor
If there are no signs that the engine is overheating (temp gauge is reading ok) then replace the ECT sensor

-I hate to say that but absolutely NO. If you don't know much about car. All these codes are emission code.
P0068 Mean Throttle position sensor.
P0171 Mean system too lean.
P0446 Mean evaporator emission control system has not correct flow
P0507 Mean Idle air control is too hight.
P0116 Mean engine coolant temperature.

Need to have a mechanic to check one by one to determine which part is effect before replace it.

right it means you have a faulty O2 sensor and i would imagine the one after the cat ,and the engine is running cold so its either a problem with no thermostat fitted or outside ambient temperature too cold and you will need to put a piece of cardboard in front of radiator to stop the air flow and the wind chill factor

P0116 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Performance, This DTC is usually set by a defective coolant temp. sensor or the related wiring. However, there is an old service bulletin. TSB#18-017-03 that calls for replacement of the Powertrain Control Module to repair this condition.

P0100 is "massair flow sensor circuit malfunction" and P0116 is "coolant temp. sensor circuit range/performance problem. Acceleration/starting issues? Replace both if the answer is yes. Great cars. The last one I drove was up armored.

P1196=Oxygen Sensor Heater Circuit,Bank1-Sensor1 Electrical Malfunction,
this is the exhaust on the drivers side,and the O2 sensor before the converter.

P0116=ECT, this is the Engine Coolant Temperature switch,NOT the temperature sending unit.

The error is P0116 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Range/Performance Problem

Could be a stuck thermostat or a bad coolant temperature sensor. That is where I would start.

Buy a Bentley's or join a VW forum, surely they will have forums for DTC code description.

Fix the leak at the emissions system first. There is a small leak that the PCU detected. That could be the cause of the P0116 problem. Also the PCU detected a lean gas mixture because it is getting more air to the fuel system than gasoline. Start with the leak , then the Engine temperature sensor. I think that fixing the lek will "fix' the othe 2 problems. but it could be either one or all of them.
