Can you help me with the replacement of my fuel filter on my 2000 Ford Excursion?
1. Best way to relieve fuel pressure? (Start truck, remove fuel pump fuse [how do I identify the correct fuse], then run the truck until it dies??) Open fuel filler door to help dissipate the pressure.
2. Should I buy a removal tool to make the job easier?
3. Any other help would be greatly appreciated. Any websites that discuss this (or show pictures). I've tried Ford Forum but no luck.
I just want to do more of my own routine maintenance and am looking for books, manuals, websites that can help.
Thanks...bk
1.- For identify the right fuse, check your 2000-Ford-Excursion-Owners-Manual position 112, 20AMP (Maxi Fuse); details in the page 138 and next.

2000-2005, Fuel Filter - Removal & Installation
NOTE
A fuel line disconnect tool is needed for this procedure.
CAUTION
Fuel injection systems remain under pressure, even after the
engine has been turned OFF. The fuel system pressure must be relieved
before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to do so may result in fire
and/or personal injury.
Negative battery cable
Fuel lines from the fuel filter. Have a drain pan handy to catch
any residual fuel once the lines are separated.
Safety clip from the male hose
Install and push the fuel line disconnect tool into the female
fitting.
NOTE
Inspect the fuel lines for any damage after the fuel is finished
draining.
Male and female fittings from the filter
Fuel filter from the bracket and the retainer, if equipped. Note
the direction of the flow arrow so the replacement filter can be
installed correctly.

rail
To install:
Fuel filter into the mounting bracket with the flow arrow pointing
in the correct direction
Fuel lines to the fuel filter. Align and push the male tube into
the female fitting until a click is heard. Pull on the fitting to ensure
that it is fully engaged, then install the safety clip.
NOTE
When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some
abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module
(PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven
10 miles (16 km) or more to relearn the strategy.
Hope this helped.
