Replaced Fuel Sending unit on 1986 Chevy Truck

I replaced the fuel sending unit on my 86 chevy to see if I could get my gas guage to work. Now the guage still does not work. I replaced the gauge with 2 that I bought at a junk yard. The gauges go way past full So I assume the guage is not at fault. Also now the truck will not start. If I put gas in the carb. it will burn that up quickly. It sounds like I have not gas going to the engine.

IM GOING INSANE...what are my options yall?

Check the ground wire at the wiring harness at the fuel tank. If it has a good connection then check the power wires to the tank. You may have a bad pigtail going to the tank. A replacement harness is available at NAPA.

I had the same problem just this weekend. I dropped the tank because my fuel gauge didnt work and I thought it was the sending unit but there was a broken wire about 6 inches away from the sending unit. I fixed this and replaced all hoses coming off of the sending unit and put the tank back in and was taking it to the store to get gas and it stopped running... I must have put a hose on wrong.... anyway, check all of the wires and put the hoses back on right.

On a 95 chevy truck. the fuel guage goes to E with any motion like turns stops . Had sending unit in tank replaced . No change in problem...

the fuel guage will only be accurate on level ground,, when you stop or go around the corner the fuel sloshes around in to tank causing the level at the float to change,, thus the guage reads different

Gas guage is not working

If there is gas in the tank and it is not registering correctly, then the sending unit or power to sending unit is bad.

Fuel gauge problem

sending unit on the fuel pump in the tank is stuck, and needs to be replaced. its expensive, but that will fix your issue. its the housing around the pump that has the float arm on it. you can try to free the float arm by removing your pump assembly, but cant guarantee its any good after being stuck

Fuel guage does not work 1999 Chevy Tahoe

the 100% for sure cause of this problem is the sending unit for the fuel guage, it is located in the gas tank. U may have to replace the fuel pump module to get the sending unit, as a rule they are one piece, if u have over 100,000 miles that is a good idea anyway.
