I replaced the fuel sending unit on my 86 chevy to see if I could get my gas guage to work. Now the guage still does not work. I replaced the gauge with 2 that I bought at a junk yard. The gauges go way past full So I assume the guage is not at fault. Also now the truck will not start. If I put gas in the carb. it will burn that up quickly. It sounds like I have not gas going to the engine.
IM GOING INSANE...what are my options yall?
Check the ground wire at the wiring harness at the fuel tank. If it has a good connection then check the power wires to the tank. You may have a bad pigtail going to the tank. A replacement harness is available at NAPA.
I'm having same problem, however, I a couple gallons gas in it then it start. my guage isue, I am thinking of replacing with a new one. I have new tank and I am sore I replaced the sending unit. That has been about two years ago. May be they just don't last long, it did work fine for a while.
I had the same problem just this weekend. I dropped the tank because my fuel gauge didnt work and I thought it was the sending unit but there was a broken wire about 6 inches away from the sending unit. I fixed this and replaced all hoses coming off of the sending unit and put the tank back in and was taking it to the store to get gas and it stopped running... I must have put a hose on wrong.... anyway, check all of the wires and put the hoses back on right.
