1996 Volvo 960 has shifting problem. Took to Trans shop and they think something is wrong with motor. When shifting from 1 to 2 it seems like the tranny is slipping or dropping down then back up quick causing car to buck. After it gets to 2 it drives normal. No codes are coming up and car runs smooth. If in park I step on the gas pedal pretty quick the car almost dies then revs normally. Doing this a couple times and the car will sometimes sound like it backfires under the hood. Not real loud but enough to hear.

Check the catalytic converter. You can do this by banging on it and listen for a rattle. Sometimes, the inside gets melted into a little ball and blocks the exhaust from getting out on acceleration. This will cause a serious loss of power and feel like a trans malfunction.

1996 960 volvo trouble code 715

That trouble code is the input speed sensor. It is bolted on externally. If you have had any recent work in the area directly above the trans axel, someone may have unhooked it. It is located at 12 o'clock right about the middle of the trans.

A good diagnostician with a scanner can hook up and drive and be able to see the impulse from that sensor. It can be replaced without a major amount of work, however it is a little hard to see. (I think you will find it under the cooler lines, but it has been a few years since I worked on one.

Hope this helps.

It is a sign slippage. Flush and replace the ATF and check for any improvement. Also check the alternator whether charging correctly.

Check engine lite is on:1997 volvo 960 p0705 transmission code

Just because your Check Engine light came on doesn't mean there's something wrong at all. Various Mechanical functions are timed by the Manufacture to signify Servicing required.

Sometimes they're set at 50K miles or more, when the light starts going on, all you have to do is take it to an Authorized Service Shop and they Reset the timer. Most places won't even charge you for doing it unless they find something wrong.
